The island of Boa Vista, the easternmost of the Cape Verde islands, is about 500 km off the African coast, and is the third island of the archipelago in size, with an area of ​​620 km2. According to the 2010 Census, the population of the island is 9,162 inhabitants, and of these, about 41% is rural population, although this one does not live agriculture. Given the extent of the island (it is the third largest island in extent), the population density is extremely low.

The population between 15 and 64 years old represents 71.4% of the total, with those under 15 years of age constituting 22.6% of the residents. The activity rate is 78.9% and the unemployment rate in 2010 was 5.7%.
